C. Ray Rogers
My grandfather, Clifton Ray Rogers, was larger than life to me. He was like something out of a Robert E. Howard story. He was, and still is, very much my hero. Sadly he was murdered when I was a child. Some of my earliest memories center around him. I miss him.
C. Ray Rogers WT3 USN
August 8, 1925 - October 19, 1972
Maiden, North Carolina
He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II and shipped on the USS Bennion. The Bennion earned 8 battle stars and was awarded the Presidential Unit Citation for duty off Okinawa (April 1-June 1, 1945).
He loved his time in the Navy and considered joining the Merchant Marines after the war.
